Waterloo is a city in Southern Ontario, Canada. Waterloo is collectively referred to as “Kitchener-Waterloo” or the “Twin Cities”, even though both cities have their autonomous governments. Waterloo has an approximate population of 100,000. Waterloo draws its name from Waterloo Belgium where the Battle of Waterloo took place that ended the Napoleonic Wars. During 1817-1840, settlement was largely by German immigrants. Waterloo became an official village in 1857 and became the Town of Waterloo in 1876 and the City of Waterloo in 1948.
Waterloo has five main parks that include; RIM Park, Waterloo Park, Bechtel Park, Hillside Park, and Lexington Park. Laurel Creek Conversation Area can be found in the northwest end of Waterloo.
